Dr. Hershel Swinger appointed to Advisory Committee for California Community Foundation
Five-year initiative focuses on young black males in Los Angeles County
Launched in October 2010 by the California Community Foundation (CCF), the Black Men and Boys (BMB) Initiative is designed to create opportunities that better integrate young black men and boys into the economic and social mainstream and reduce levels of persistent underachievement and dependency on public systems.
The goals of the BMB Initiative are to:
- Increase the awareness of issues facing black men and boys in L.A. County.
- Support strategies that address these issues based on empirical research and community input.
- Expand private and public investments that produce positive outcomes for this population.
- Produce a replicable model that can be applied to other similar underserved, vulnerable populations (e.g., Latino men and boys).
The Advisory Committee is composed of prominent individuals representing a diverse range of sectors in the community. As a member of the Advisory Committee Dr. Swinger will provide guidance and input to CCF during the planning phase of the initiative.
